Our office was the first dental office in Berkeley to be accessible to, as well as accomodate, people in wheelchairs. We are able and willing to treat patients without the need to leave their chair.
Dr Johnson has a 45 year old autistic brother whom he treats, that lives in a group home in eastern Contra Costa County. Dental treatment can be very traumatic to persons with autism. Though Dr Johnson has had no formal education in treating these individuals, he has developed some type of understanding and compassion over his last 45 years of being involved with a person with autism that allows the individual to eventually feel comfortable in our office setting.
Our philosophy is, if these individuals are willing to make an effort to see Dr Johnson, then Dr Johnson is willing to see them.
Sometimes it takes a little longer than other times. We are proud to say that every person with special needs that has entered our office, continues to return. We have yet to meet the special individual that we are unable to treat.
